Hello and welcome to the Student Affairs Committee’s Electives Wiki. In the following pages, you’ll find a centralized information database collected to help make electives as stress free and productive as possible. Under the wiki’s oh-so-witty headings, we hope you’ll not only find what you’re looking for, but find a moment to give a little back using its wiki feature.

Objective

From the electives office of all English speaking Canadian medical schools, here you’ll be able to find information about each school’s fees, immunization requirements, deadlines and more. We’ve done our best to ensure that all the information is up-to-date, but to be sure about the schools you’re serious about, make sure to also check their elective office websites which we’ve also provided links to.

Subjective

In addition to each school’s official elective procedures, in this section we’ve also included some tips and timely advice from Western students with first hand experience. You’ll find information on how procedures differ from Western, how to ask for reference letters, on accommodations, travel and more. If you find something they’ve missed, make sure to use the wiki feature of this guide by creating a user name yourself (see the top of this page) and adding your opinion. By taking advantage of this feature, we can ensure that this guide stays up-to-date and serves Western students to its fullest capacity.

Plan

Finally, make sure to also take a look here where you’ll find handy lists to help you plan and prepare for your electives. You’ll find a complete immunization checklist, so that if you have this information, your documentation will be ready for any school’s requirements. You’ll also find a ‘To Take With You on Electives for CaRMS’ checklist, in case you’re not in London for some of the application milestones.
